Yesterday I graduated! The ceremony took a little over an hour, and it involved a couple of speeches, a few musical performances and of course, the main event itself: the giving of the diplomas and switching the tassel from the right to the left. For a little bit over a week, I've been entrenched in the belief that I won't really be graduated until finals are over (because really, who actually graduates before finishing finals), but there was something about the incontrovertible symbolism of that gesture that was too much to ignore, and it got to me. I guess this is it; next Thursday I will officially finish my studies at The College of St. Scholastica!

This week has been championship week for all intramural sports on campus. Both volleyball leagues and basketball have champions. Tonight the soccer and tennis champions will be crowned. Winners not only get pride and bragging rights, but also an awesome intramural champions shirt! A MVP from each league is also picked and receives their own special shirt. With intramural sports ending this week, it's almost time for the next block of sports to begin next semester which will be advanced and rec volleyball, co-ed basketball, open soccer, and spikeball.

Upon graduating, everyone is required to fill out a housing cancellation form--at least those graduating in December. Housing contracts usually run for an academic year, so unless you're graduating on time (in which case I don't know what happens, maybe you become abducted by aliens), you have to notify ResLife that you're leaving early. It is a formality, but one that can save you from having to pay late-checkout fees! So now you know: you're making a quasi-adult contract with ResLife--don't break it!

Every year, the college organizes a Christmas feast at GDR. It usually takes place around these dates, and it is always free for all St. Scholastica students, faculty, staff and their families! Food is always the same: turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, cooked vegetables, and breaded ravioli with marinara sauce. The ravioli were definitely my favorite! They never fail to make my night. It was quite charming to see faculty and staff having a great time with their families. This is what Christmas is about!

Hockey rinks around Duluth are starting to open up to the public! With the colder temperatures upon us, the conditions are perfect for forming good ice. Duluth Heights rink, a popular rink with St. Scholastica students due to its close proximity, was the first to open in Duluth this year. I have had the chance to skate on it twice since it opened with friends and I love it! If you love hockey/skating or want to learn, Duluth is the place to go!
