Rainforest
So I finally made it out to the rainforest this past weekend. My class went out to Yasuni national park from Thursday to Monday. It was a solid 5 day trip with endless activities. We started our trip in the Oriente by touring around in a bus with a guide to check out some of the not so beautiful sights of the area – the oil industry. There is a big issue about oil exploitation in Ecuador right now and I now understand why; the pollution and deforestation is disgusting. But aside from the disturbing amount of oil pollution, we also got to see the beauty that is still the Amazon. We actually stayed in the park for the majority of the time at a scientific station where we got to hang out with biologists who were quite knowledgable about the forest. Every day included miles of hiking through the wet and muddy forest, or riding down the coffee colored river in a canoe. And despite the extreme humidity and heat, it was one of the best times of my life.
