Welcoming New McNair Scholars

Today I had the opportunity to have dinner with the new cohort of McNair Scholars. In addition to a free dinner, it was a chance for me to answer questions for the new Scholars about the program, my research project, and what they can expect in the next year. We did a few getting-to-know-you activities where we discussed our research interests and something we’d like to accomplish in our lifetime. Almost everyone at my table agreed they’d like to travel and that they want to make a difference in people’s lives. I think this is one of my favorite things about being a McNair Scholar: everyone wants to help eachother and leave their marks on the world. McNair is so much more than research. I have become more educated in topics of social justice and made lasting connections with others who share my value of education. I am so excited to know the people in my cohort, as well as the new Scholars, will go on to be Professors of higher education, top researchers in their field, leaders of industry, and anything else they put their minds to.
