Local Eating with your Special Someone

So you met someone in your human communications class freshman year and you’ve finally worked up the courage to make a move. Movies and bowling are great, sure, but a date is only as good as the food, right?

Amazing Grace Bakery and Cafe is a cozy restaurant located on 394 S Lake Ave in Canal Park. With live music, outdoor seating, and great service, an early breakfast here is the best way to start the day. Visit their website to see what local talents will be performing or just enjoy the hustle and bustle of Canal Park as you dig into a delicious salmon omelette or classic buttermilk pancakes.
My pick: Meat and cheese omelette.

Although I already mentioned Grandma’s Saloon and Grill once, it wouldn’t be fair not to give the Boxcar a special shout out. Owned by Grandma’s, the Boxcar is a seasonal grab-and-go restaurant right on the Lakewalk. Try the chicago style hotdog or a double scoop of your favorite ice cream as you enjoy the beautiful weather and watch the ore boats come and go.
My pick: Plain hot dog and an orange dream float.

Add some romance to your evening by grabbing a bite to eat at Va Bene Caffe at 734 E. Superior St. Although a little more expensive, the fresh italian food and lakeside view will make it a night to remember. Make sure to call ahead and get reservations, and don’t skip the dessert!
My pick: Gnocchi, Housemade potato gnocchi with your choice of San Marzano tomato sauce or gorgonzola cheese sauce.
