Research Articles and Presentation

Wednesday, January 31st, 2018

This morning I had the opportunity to participate in a group meeting at St. Luke’s Hospital along with other practicing physical therapists in the area. We listened to Dr. Ruda, an orthopedic and sports medicine physician, give a presentation on foot and ankle mechanics along with syndesmotic (high ankle sprains) and peroneal tendon injuries. Dr. Rust, another practicing orthopedic surgeon in the area was also there interacting throughout the presentation.  I was given four articles prior to the gathering to read over that pertained to the topics discussed. It was a great opportunity to see how both practicing clinicians and doctors work together to share knowledge and experience to help provide improved patient centered care. I’m very happy to be in the physical therapy field and looking forward to attending some of these events in the near future as a licensed physical therapist!

DPT Internship Dry Needling

Thursday, August 24th, 2017

Dry needling has become one of the tools utilized by physical therapists all throughout the world. One of the ways dry needling is used is in addition to electrical stimulation. Below is a photo of one of the physical therapists at my clinical internship site, Viverant in Vadnais Heights, MN, practicing his dry needling with e-stim skills. I am personally thinking about getting certified in dry needling after I earn my doctorate in physical therapy. Learning continues long after graduation with new skills and techniques – a fundamental value that CSS instills in you while attending CSS – the Love of Learning.

Viverant Internship Update

Monday, August 21st, 2017

Quick update: I am currently in week 7/8 of my first terminal internship in Vadnais Heights, MN at Viverant, an outpatient orthopaedic setting physical therapy setting. It has been an awesome experience learning from some fantastic clinical instructors, who also happen to be CSS DPT alumni themselves. I have had the opportunity to go to a few of the other clinics in the area, including Eagan and Minnetonka to observe and learn from a few other PT’s at Viverant.

Viverant Physical Therapy

Thursday, March 2nd, 2017

Yesterday I had my afternoon open following classes and I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to go hang out with a local physical therapist, DJ Lahti, at Viverant in Duluth, MN. I wanted to get back into the clinic and just observe, pick up a few tips/tricks, and clinically reason/think with real patients prior to starting my 6-week clinic rotation at school. DJ is one of our adjunct faculty at the College of St. Scholastica in the Physical Therapy program. He is also a CSS baseball alumni, which is how I knew him first, having played ball myself at CSS prior to starting the PT program.
