Famous Musician in Duluth

Tuesday, March 21st, 2017

Grammy award winner Ernie Watts was in Duluth for the UMD Head of the Lakes Jazz Festival and made an appearance at Blacklist Bar for a jam session with the UMD music department and other local musicians.  I didn’t get a chance to go to his concert so it was an awesome surprise to see him at the jam session. In this photo my boyfriend is on drums, a UMD faculty member is on keys, and the strings are two other UMD students. For a jam session, someone calls a song and if you know it you can switch out instruments and have a turn to play. I’ve been to a few now, however, I am not musically inclined so I will still to being their professional photographer.

Disc Golf

Monday, March 20th, 2017

Duluth welcomed all the college students back with some beautiful weather! I absolutely had to get outside to enjoy it and disc golf was the obvious solution. There was only one problem: it snowed last week. Snow + Sun = Mud. We decided against playing all nine holes due to our mud caked fingers but it was still nice to get outside for a little bit.

Ariels!

Tuesday, February 28th, 2017

Last night was ariels night at the UMD Swing Dancing Club! I am thrilled that UMD continues to collaborate with St. Scholastica for awesome activities like this. In swing dancing, ariels are stunts and lifts. They are a really fun way to add some flare and personality to your dancing. We still had a regular lesson to practice some dips and turns as well but it was exciting to see everyone getting out of their comfort zone with lifts. There are quite a few Swing events coming up as well so there will plenty of opportunities to show off the new moves I learned.
