Online Class Tips

Monday, July 17th, 2017

Sometimes taking an online class is overwhelming. This is especially true if you don’t know anyone in the class either! My first tip is to read your classmate’s introductions in your first discussion post. Get to know the students that are now in the same boat as you. Check to see if you know anyone, if you do, it wouldn’t hurt to reach out to them and become “class buddies” so you can always text and email each other when you have questions or need encouragement. This doesn’t mean to work on everything together!! This means, to hold each other accountable and help if you have a question on something. It’s nice to have someone to reach out to! My next tip is to not be afraid to post questions or to email your professor if you need help after you have exhausted all of your resources available to you! Finally, get your work done on time and do not procrastinate in online classes. You will thank yourself in the long run if you do your work in a timely order!

Find a study spot

Sunday, October 23rd, 2016

My struggle freshmen year of college was focus. I could never focus. Studying in a dorm room was impossible and the library was honestly too scary for me. Walking there at night through the school and not really knowing anyone there was terrifying. (I eventually found a couple study buddies and got over my library fear). My tip is: find a spot for yourself without distractions, grab a tea or coffee, and study each night everything you took notes on in class/homework for at least a solid 30-60 minutes (or until done). Also, you do your homework when it’s assigned and then you can relax…procrastination can be stressful!

Living Away From Home

Wednesday, October 7th, 2015

For many people, college is the first time living away from home for an extended period of time.  This can be very daunting or maybe even scary at times.  But the feeling of homesickness is a completely normal feeling and I’m pretty sure everyone has experienced it at some point.

This is the first semester I have ever had that has had so many final projects assigned to me! It’s different and a little stressful. Working in groups is a good skill to try and get better at in college. It takes balance and patience since everyone is so busy with their own lives, finding a time in common to meet up can take a lot of flexibility. One meeting I have coming up is at 10pm at night, sometimes odd times are all that works so you have to be able to go with the flow.

1. You cannot get away with doing homework an hour before class; even if you did at high school or in PSEO.
