Post NPTE Celebration

Sunday, April 29th, 2018

The majority of the 2018 Doctor of Physical Therapy class just took the April National Physical Therapy Exam on Wednesday. Currently, all of us are very anxiously/nervously awaiting the results of the exam. It usually take between 5-7 days for the results to be posted. The exam is essentially what we have been preparing for over the past 3 years and will allow us to work as Doctors of Physical Therapy.

Scorebuilders PT Exam Prep Class

Friday, April 6th, 2018

In addition to the capstone/elective projects that we, the 2018 doctor of physical therapy graduating class, presented on this week to our faculty and peers, we also had two days of the Scorebuilders On-Campus Review Course. This review course was provided by the physical therapy department to assist students in study preparation and test taking skills for the National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE). It consisted of two full days of discussion, practice questions, helpful tips and tricks, etc. to hopefully improve test scores. We focused on all the systems the exam covers: Musculoskeletal, Neuromuscular, Cardiopulmonary, Other Systems, and Non-Systems. We also focused on the types of mistakes including, academic, decision making, and test taking and at what level the questions were – 1, 2 or 3. All of this was to help emphasize the weaker areas so that we can put more focus on the area(s) going forward. The NPTE is the exam all physical therapists are required to pass in order to practice physical therapy. It is essentially the culmination of our three years of coursework and internship information. With less than 3 weeks before I take my exam, it was a very helpful exam prep/review session! Back to studying!

PT Pub Night

Thursday, April 5th, 2018

Last night Aspen Medical Staffing, LLC hosted a “PT Pub Night” at Tavern on the Hill. These events are provided to help current physical therapy (PT) students meet and network with other PT students, clinicians, and healthcare providers in an informal setting. It provides us with the opportunity to make connections, discuss job possibilities, and to catch up with alumni of the CSS DPT program who are working around the Duluth area. Aspen Medical Staffing, LLC is a travel company owned and operated by College of St. Scholastica PT graduates. They have been hosting these events all over the nation recently to recruit and provide students with the opportunities mentioned above. Earlier in the day they presented on their company and the in’s/out’s of travel physical therapy. It was a lot of fun and well worth all of the socializing, plus Tavern on the Hill has great food and beverages, especially during Happy Hour!

DPT Final Presentation

Wednesday, April 4th, 2018

I gave my final presentation today on my case study that I have been working on for 8 months titled, “Upper Extremity Prosthetic Fitting and Training Utilizing the Touch Bionics i-digitsTM¬†for a Quadruple Amputee: A Case Report”. The presentation went really well. I am very passionate about this research project and felt that I was able to adequately express that to my audience of approximately 50. It is nice to see so much hard work pay-off and I must give thanks to my advisors, clinical instructors, and the patient for all of the assistance, dedication, patience, and support along the way.

Final Internship… DONE

My final internship for the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program has officially been completed. It was a great 10 weeks of working in a private practice outpatient orthopedic clinic in rural WI. I developed quite a few great professional relationships and was able to take part in a some really great opportunities that make the rural setting so special.
