Job Accepted

Thursday, February 1st, 2018

I recently got a notification of a “memory” on Facebook of a status I posted three years ago thanking all those involved in my life as I found out that I was accepted into the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the College of St. Scholastica. Just a few short days after that “memory”, I officially accepted a job offer at an orthopedic private practice physical therapy clinic in the twin cities. I am beyond ecstatic about the whole situation for many reasons. It is a large stress taken off my shoulders as I also have to finish my final internship, study and prep for the board exam, and finish my capstone project. It has also given me the opportunity once again to take a moment and appreciate all those who have helped me along the way including, family, friends, coaches, professors, staff, clinical instructors, college resources, and so many more. My time at St. Scholastica has been a very rewarding experience and it is great to see the light at the end of the tunnel getting ever-so brighter. I am very thankful to where my education has brought me and I’m excited to see what this next chapter of my life will bring!

After tomorrow I will be three weeks into my final terminal internship for the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the College of St. Scholastica. I am currently at Orthopedic & Spine Therapy in Poplar, WI. The first three weeks have gone really well and I am enjoying each day getting more experience with hands on treatments. I am also learning a lot thanks to some set aside time for one on one skill practice with my clinical instructors.

Final Physical Therapy Internship

Monday, January 8th, 2018

Today was my “last” first day of internship as I finish out my requirements for the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the College of St. Scholastica. This is my third terminal internship and fourth overall. This particular internship fulfills my requirement for a clinical in a rural location. I am working in Poplar, WI at Orthopedic & Spine Therapy. I am commuting the 30 minutes to and from the clinic each day from my apartment in Duluth (Pray for good road conditions). Day 1 went very well. I met one of my clinical instructors today and assisted with a few patients. I was able to get hands on immediately, perform some objective tests and measures, create some exercises, and become familiar with the electronic medical record system the clinic utilizes. I’m already excited for day 2 tomorrow and am looking forward to the vast amount of knowledge and experience to be earned over the next 10 weeks!

DPT Internship Dry Needling

Thursday, August 24th, 2017

Dry needling has become one of the tools utilized by physical therapists all throughout the world. One of the ways dry needling is used is in addition to electrical stimulation. Below is a photo of one of the physical therapists at my clinical internship site, Viverant in Vadnais Heights, MN, practicing his dry needling with e-stim skills. I am personally thinking about getting certified in dry needling after I earn my doctorate in physical therapy. Learning continues long after graduation with new skills and techniques – a fundamental value that CSS instills in you while attending CSS – the Love of Learning.

1st Week of Internship Complete

My first week of my first doctorate of physical therapy (DPT) terminal internship is complete. I chose to work “Four 10’s” during this 8 week internship in order to see how I liked that schedule. To be honest, it is exhausting, but rewarding.
