Outdoor Pursuit Rentals/Calendar

Monday, July 10th, 2017

Looking for adventure while you spend time at St. Scholastica? It is an absolute MUST to visit CSS’s Outdoor Pursuit website. I recently rented a hiking backpack for a couple days and it only cost me $6. They have just about everything you could need for an outdoor hiking/camping/paddling/canoeing trip and you can get it for a very cheap price. Check out the rental list HERE and start planning your adventure.

As the weekend approaches, I am preparing to guide yet another sea kayaking trip in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore [AINL]. This time, I will be leading a group of incoming freshman as part of the August Adventures Student Outdoor Adventure Retreat [SOAR]. The goal of SOAR, provided by Outdoor Pursuit [OP], is to give students the opportunity to meet new people and gain friends going into their freshman year, to experience the outdoors, and to gain confidence in themselves before setting off on their college journey. I am glad to be a part of such a wonderful program, and I feel so lucky to have began my freshman year at The College of St. Scholastica with a SOAR sea kayaking trip. I gained a lifelong friend, a sense of wanderlust, and a passion for giving others a similar experience to my own.

This Journey

As I prepare to head out on my first sea kayaking trip of the 2016 summer paddling season, I find myself thinking back to and reflecting on all of my past experiences on the water. The very first time I found myself on Lake Superior in a sea kayak was also my very first true college experience. I participated in the Student Outdoor Adventure Retreat program [SOAR trip], which was part of the August Adventures for incoming freshman at The College of St. Scholastica. I was led to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore by three student guides, one being Jane Sloan.

Today I wrapped up the SOAR program with my Outdoor Pursuit co-guides. We had a successful, busy, and eventful five days up the North Shore with our group of incoming freshmen.

And, SOAR Begins!

Today, I will be heading out on trail for five days with a group of incoming CSS freshmen. I will be leading the trip with my friend and co-guide, Tori. We will be spending our trip camping up the North Shore of Lake Superior. Our participants will have the opportunity to meet new friends, build a lasting support system for college, go rock climbing, swimming, hiking, paddle boarding and more.
