SleepWell at CSS

Sleeping is great, don’t you agree? Unfortunately, not that many people get enough/adequate sleep due to various circumstances. I am very conscious about my sleep patterns and the quality of sleep I get as this usually affects my overral performance when I am awake. One resource that I have found to be useful is a program on campus called SleepWell. SleepWell is the College of St. Scholastica’s sleep initiative and an extension of WellU’s wellness programs. I find this resource to be very useful as it contains much relevant information, advice, and resources that help one be the best version of themselves. Visit for more information about the initiative. The is tool for helping you to figure out how your sleep is going and get personalized feedback.  CSS students can also make use of the CSQ (College Sleep Questionnaire) which is a great tool that gives personalized feedback about your sleep and how to make it better!

What is Sleep?

Thursday, February 16th, 2017

I think my body is having a hard time adjusting to student teaching. I’ve always been inclined to staying up too late, but now I have to get up early (some days I attempt to get up before 5, key word: attempt). It’s been weird adjusting to a “big girl” time schedule and bed time. I am exhausted by 8ish and am asleep by 9:30. Everyone else I know is staying up way later than that; my roommate even stays up until 1! I feel because of my early bed time I have been missing out on opportunities for socializing. Like on Valentines, some of my friends went out to dinner and to a movie, but they didn’t get off work until 8. Any late night plans I just can’t participate in for the sake of having enough sleep to make it through a school day. Lately I’ve been noticing my body retaliating though; I’ve slept through 3 alarms this week or fallen back asleep after attempting to wake up. Luckily I haven’t actually slept through all my alarms or winded up late for anything. I do definitely think my body is screaming, “YOU ARE A NIGHT OWL.”

To Sleep or Not to Sleep

We all know that there are only 24 hours in a day. That means I have 24 hours today, and you have 24 hours today, and there are no exceptions.

My First Second Semeser

Friday, January 20th, 2017

This is my second semester of college total; my first spring semester, and I am very excited! This semester I am taking Dignitas, French 2, Development Through the Lifespan Psychology, Chemistry 2, and Biology of the Cell. I lucked out this semester when it comes to my schedule. One 8am class but then the rest start at 10am or later!! I’ve never had a better night’s sleep then I do now, knowing that the classes that I was advised to take and chose, allow for MORE SLEEP! Sleep is so important (and let’s be honest, it’s great!) especially when you’re involved with other things going on! For example, I participate in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship on campus, along with the Yoga Sculpt fitness class! Working out my brain, my spirit, and my body requires a lot of energy, but I know that I will get it! I’m so thankful to my advisor for helping me make the decisions I needed to when it came to classes.
