Missed an Assignment?

Tuesday, July 11th, 2017

Have you missed an assignment or are you about to due to sickness or an emergency? Sometimes you wonder how you should go about telling your professor. I’m here to help! I’ve been through this a lot because I have a chronic condition, and freshmen year I had the classic freshmen illnesses that may get you too! Coming to a new school means you are exposed to lots of new people, new germs, new bacteria, and new stresses on the body! It’s common to catch a simple cold your first year at school. Although a common cold will not keep you from class sometimes more serious illness like Mono or the Flu can keep you from making it to class. The first thing you should do is email or call your professor as soon as possible! It’s beneficial to get a note from the nurse as well. Professors are usually understanding if you let them know ahead of time and send them a professional and sincere email detailing what’s going on. Never be afraid to contact the professors, at CSS the professors truly are there to help you succeed. My next advice would be to do what you can, when you can, and submit your missed work as soon as possible when you are able! Drink lots of water, get proper sleep, and make sure to be washing your hands, bedding, and dorm surfaces often!

Spring Fever

Wednesday, March 29th, 2017

No, not THAT Spring fever. I mean the sick and stay in bed kind. With the warm weather a fresh batch of germs seem to be floating around campus. Everyone is getting colds, the flu, and as for me, I’ve got a viral infection causing my tonsils to double in size. I’ve been downing as much water as I can and taking some ibuprofen in hopes to speed up the healing process. Unfortunately, being unable to talk isn’t enough of an excuse to not attend classes, so I’ve been doing my best to participate as much as I can without doing further damage to my poor tonsils. So far, it’s been working out okay, however, tomorrow is a presentation day! Wish me luck and good health.

Concussion

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2016

Lucky me, yesterday at my new job, I slipped and hit my head on the playground. I didn’t think it was bad after the first twenty minutes, but today it really kicked in. I made it through a class and a half but my Physics class was way too loud. I went to Health Services and I’m supposed to go back tomorrow as well to get checked up on. I’m pretty sure I have a mild concussion. After skipping my other 2 classes and work, I took a 4 hour nap and felt better… For a while. I’m just really thankful that there’s a place on campus I can get medical check ups on.

Sick Strides

Monday, February 22nd, 2016

I’ve been sick all weekend and not much has changed since then. It’s rough working out when you don’t feel good. I just did some mild exercise of what I could today and tried to sweat as much as possible. Conference is this weekend so there’s no chance of skipping out on workouts this week. Trying to stay healthy is semi-difficult in college (for me anyway) but CSS has a good staff at health services and and other outlets to keep students healthy. I should start using them more.

Sick During Finals

Thursday, December 17th, 2015

So of course, I am sick. During finals. I’ve been running a fever all day and feel all queasy. The stomach flu just got done going around, but looks like I caught something else. Today I made it through Painting, work, and my Spanish oral exam. Right now I’m doing terrible in Painting and I’m pretty sure I’m bombing Spanish as well, but I’ve come to a point where I’ve accepted my likely grades. So far I know I have an A in 3 classes, a Pass in another, either a B+ or A- in one, then hopefully I’ll get a B and C+ in painting and Spanish respectively. Plus, I’ll probably get an A for my Jamaica Social Justice Course over Winter Break. Is that really 8 classes? I didn’t even realize how many classes I took… But as you can, overall my grades aren’t terrible.  I’m mostly stumped at how I got sick. I have been getting at least 8.5 of sleep each night, eat healthy, take my vitamins, don’t share water or food, use hand sanitizer all the time… Ugh. I guess the finals sickness has to hit someone. Luckily, I just have a painting and two final exams Monday and Tueaday to really worry about. That gives me plenty of time to study and rest. Unlike one of my poor roommates who leaves tomorrow and stayed up til 4 am Tuesday night studying… Finals.
