Where to eat: Duluth

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2019

Famous Dave’s BBQ. Even though “famous” is part of the name, the restaurant is indeed famous–and for good reason. It has won multiple awards for its grilled food and barbecue, but the service is excellent, and they offer outstanding discounts that vary depending on what day of the week it is. We ate there on a day in which they happened to have a 50% off from all starters, and we feasted with delicious food for a very reasonable price. One last tip: don’t let yourself be fooled by the name “starter”. Two starters can comfortably feed two people!

New Eats – Boomtown Brewery and Woodfire Grill

Monday, March 26th, 2018

A “new” restaurant called Boomtown Brewery and Woodfire Grill popped up in Hibbing, MN which is about an hour and a half north of Duluth. The restaurant has an original in Eveleth, MN, however, the owners just put up another one in Hibbing along with a brewery. Being the brewery connoisseurs that we are and since Chisholm is home for my girlfriend, we checked it out. They were very busy the evening we went in, but we found a spot at the bar and ordered up some great food and a buy one get one beer from their tap list. Along with the food and beer, service was great and so was the atmosphere. If you are ever headed north through Hibbing, MN be sure to check out Boomtown!

Lunch-time Hot Spot

Tuesday, May 9th, 2017

Toasty’s hasn’t been in Duluth for very long but it’s definitely grown to be a hot-spot for an afternoon meal. After a long morning of taking photos for my Pre-Raphaelite final, Shayna and I headed over to Toasty’s, Duluth’s resident gourmet grilled cheese restaurant. I always go for the usual, the Fast Break on wheat and DELICIOUS blueberry fritters for dessert. The environment is super chill and the food is great. I would definitely recommend this location for a study break or date night.

Food in Duluth

Tuesday, January 24th, 2017

As many of you know Duluth is pretty famous for its restaurants. There are so many options; from the closest McDonalds to The Duluth Grill which specializes in organic Duluth grown food. The only reason you wouldn’t know where to eat would be because there’s too many options! While I haven’t tried them all yet (because let’s be honest, there’s no way I have enough money for that) I do have some favorites. The first I will share with you is an adorable coffee shop named Perk Place! Perk Place is roughly a 15 min walk from campus, or a 3 min drive. They are made for studying! They have outlets along all the walls and comfortable chairs so you will be very content studying here; and of course fabulous coffee and food to keep you energized! The second is called Burrito Union. They are located a little away from campus; but it’s only about a 5 min drive. I’m sure you can tell by the name that they serve burritos; but they also serve tacos, nachos, and more (basically Mexican cuisine is their specialty). When I go to Burrito Union I always get the same thing, the Pig In the Pond burrito. It’s a deliciously stuffed burrito covered in cheese and enchilada sauce; SO GOOD! The last one that I will share with you today is Sarah’s Table. Sarah’s Table is a 20 min walk from campus and a 5-10 min drive. Much like the Duluth Grill, Sarah’s Table specializes in home grown fresh food; their garden of ingredients is actually located near their parking lot!
