Denmark Study Abroad Opportunity

Thursday, April 30th, 2015

There was a meeting today about a new study abroad opportunity being offered in the spring of 2016. The abroad experience involves receiving 4 credits in the learning about the science of happiness, something I find very intriguing, and a two and a half week trip to Denmark. I went to the meeting, because I really wanted to learn more about the opportunity.

I had a Skype interview today for a summer camp counselor position. A few hours later, I received an email for a second interview!  I am so excited and nervous. One thing I would have to say is the Career Services here has helped me. I have actually never stopped in there (I probably should soon), but even as a prospective student, I would grab their brochures and flyers on career material. I still have a huge booklet on resumes and internships that I picked up my junior year of high school. If you don’t have time to talk to a career counselor, stop by at least and swipe a pamphlet! They are extremely detailed and have helped me with my resume and several job applications.

Building a Resumé

Sunday, January 4th, 2015

I remember the days when I had no idea how to even spell resumé. Now I’m updating mine to fit my college life. Most high schoolers don’t have resumés but they are so important to have. Once you are in college, it is so important to have one. My high school version had tons of extracurricular activities and fun, but I haven’t participated in much yet at CSS. I haven’t established 100% commitment really to any clubs, so besides working and volunteering at Animal Allies, I don’t have a lot to put on my resumé. I’m working on building it up again, there’s only so much you can keep on it from high school. CSS offers great packets on how to make a resumé, They offer so many resources regarding careers! When I toured Scholastica, I knew that was something I liked. I wanted a college that would not only train me, but help me get the job. They had packets discussing what each major could offer job-wise, and other information. I am not worried at all about my career because I know I have CSS behind me to help!

Value of Internships

Friday, March 28th, 2014

Coming into school, I had no idea what internships offered and how they could benefit you. I knew I needed one for my major, but I never put much interest into it until my Junior year. I now have two, which I’ve said before and getting this experience before I leave has been extremely helpful. It’s important to try to get as many internship opportunities before you leave. They give you a chance to learn without the pressure of messing up. The internships I’ve had, have been with people who are invested in helping me learn and grow. I’m really thankful for it.
