404

This week has been an exciting one in my job as Web Assistant. I have been going after broken links on the college’s website as my team seeks to provide a better user experience. My task mostly involves testing a number of links that a developer on the team provides and compiling all the broken ones and sending them back to my supervisor to resolve. Looking forward to finding all the evasive “404: Page Not Found” pages!

Day 6 of D.C.

Wednesday, July 19th, 2017

This morning we met of Minnesota’s state senators, Al Franken. It was a really interesting experience. We went to the Senate building and went into a room, where we were provided a Minnesotan-style porridge. We ended up having a bit of a medical emergency within the group, but nonetheless, the rest of it went pretty smoothly. Some of our students were really excited to meet Senator Franken. I know that CSS’ Student Support Services’ group went there earlier in the summer. I wasn’t in SSS and I really regret it for missed opportunities like this. Thankfully with my job that’s also a TRiO program, I’m able to take some of the same opportunities!

Day 5 of D.C.

Today with Upward Bound, aka the best on-campus summer job you could ever have, we saw the King and I! On our summer trips we often see a theatre show. This year, we saw The King and I at the Kennedy Center. We dressed up all fancy and watched a star-studded cast perform one a musical version of one of my favorite children’s movies. My summer job has wonderful perks and is intrinsically rewarding as well. As the trip is ending however, I just can’t help but feel a bit down.

Day 4 of D.C.

Monday, July 17th, 2017

As part of the Upward Bound program, we take students on college tours. So while we are on this trip, we have two college tours: Notre Dame and Georgetown. Today we toured Georgetown. Afterward, there was a very big dialogue on what each student hopes for in their ideal college. This included me bringing up a lot of the pros and cons of my own college choice. I remember being on my own summer trip as an Upward Bound student. We stayed in Duluth and toured UMD, UWS, and CSS. That’s actually how I discovered St. Scholastica was the right fit for me. I love my job because I can help students with their lives in a way that impacted me indefinitely as well.

Struggling with my Classes

Sunday, July 16th, 2017

I tried to finish most of my homework right away last week when it opened up on Blackboard, so I wouldn’t have any work to do during the D.C. trip, but I just couldn’t finish some of it. I had to respond to a few of my classmates’ discussion posts and I also need to make a graphic organizer for an article I read. I’m not sure when I’m going to have time to do these, mostly because we don’t have Wi-Fi at our hotel! We only have wi-fi on our bus, but we don’t have that much time on our bus. This has really taught me a lesson on time management and communicating with my professors.
