An Open Letter to My Freshman Self

Wednesday, June 7th, 2017

Hey Chey,

College is scary and that is okay. You’re going to learn so much about who you are and how strong you can be. Nothing worth having is easy, and college is going to hammer this lesson home.
8 AM classes are not going to be easy any more. When you feel like you’re going to fall asleep, sit in the front of class. Cut down your caffeine consumption, that way you can use it when you really need it.
You are mentally ill, please make sure you are taking care of yourself. This is new information that a lot of other young adults are finding out too. You are not alone. Go to counseling services, talk to your doctor. Most of all, lean on your support system, they have your back.
Don’t expect things to fix themselves.

Working Out!

Friday, February 19th, 2016

Some days I just really don’t want to do anything (homework included).  But I try to get at least some sort of aerobic exercise in every day.  It is easier during the week because I just head on over to the BWC and use the elliptical and weight machines.  On the weekend I try to go to the gym at my apartment complex.  Even though it is hard to motivate myself to work out, I realize that it is just important as it is to do well in school.

Homework all Day, Not Every Day

Sunday, January 24th, 2016

Yes, I’m that girl who procrastinates until Sunday to every single thing she committed to doing the past week. I can’t help it, I was swamped, yesterday after giving my first tour I had nothing planned and I had honestly no idea what to do with myself. Actually, I had a lot of things myself needed to do (is that even close to good grammar?) and I just didn’t want to do them. So I spent most of the day struggling to do any of my reading or contemplating what to do afterward. I think that when you know you can’t focus to save your life, you just have to put the books down and take it as a sign that you are stressed and need to relax! My roommate actually got back from Honduras finally yesterday afternoon, so we were lazy and watched movies all night. Today I’m paying for it though because I have a million things to do and I still have only done one assignment! My other roommate did her homework all day yesterday until about 9 p.m. I really need to start having her determination! Hopefully this is just warming up to the full academic load and I’ll have more motivation next week.

Rainy Days

Tuesday, November 17th, 2015

The past couple of days have been very rainy and foggy.  This combination makes it very difficult to stay focused on school work because all I want to do is stay in and watch Netflix all day.  I have to keep reminding myself that graduation isn’t too far away so I have to keep on top of everything.  Even though it is difficult to stay motivated, particularly on days like these, I know that I have to do everything I need to get done!  I’m going to go write my paper now, but maybe I’ll treat myself to some Netflix later!

Spring Fever

Tuesday, March 17th, 2015

Coming back from spring break and having no snow, plenty of sun, and mild temperatures is making the dedication to school work so difficult! Although I always find the motivation to actually complete my work, I have to admit that this week has felt surreal due to the spring like climate we have been experiencing here in Duluth. I remember last year at this time it was cold, and there was still quite the amount of white fluff covering the grass. Today I look outside at almost 6PM now, and I see sun, blue, skies, and not yet green grass. The question is, is this weather just teasing us or is Spring really coming this soon?
