Mentor Connection Event

Tuesday, November 21st, 2017

A week ago, Matthew R. and I attended the second Mentor Connection event as Student Ambassadors of the program. Both of us graduated from the program last year and since then, we have been actively recruiting and encouraging CSS students to participate and benefit from this program. Mentor Connection is a NORTHFORCE initative that pairs local business leaders and professionals with UMD and CSS college students to create lasting relationships and valuable connections through a year-long mentorship program.

Last year I was part of the guinea pig class of the Mentor Connection program, an initiative of NORTHFORCE. Students participating in the program attend six professional networking events and workshops during which they learn about various career opportunities in the Twin Ports area.

Finding a mentor at CSS!!

Thursday, March 30th, 2017

When I first heard of the Mentor Connection program last year, I was quite skeptical and put off submitting my application until sometime in early May. I heard nothing back until the Fall semester started and I was paired with a mentor. This opportunity has taught me a lot about networking and how to build a professional relationship. It is quite hard to meet someone and immediately start sharing your story, but I did that and now I am even closer to my mentor, who is a Vice President of Product Engineering at a local tech company based in California. 2 days ago, I attended an event and my mentor was there and even helped me to connect with two more professionals who work in the area!
