Class Sizes

Tuesday, January 16th, 2018

I wanted to take a moment to discuss the topic of class sizes at the College of St. Scholastica. During my time in undergrad the majority of my class sizes were between 15 and 20. This amount of students made it easy to connect with classmates, approach the professor, and feel comfortable. My larger lecture classes such as chemistry and biology were around 80 students with smaller groups of 20 for the lab portion of class. Although the lectures are fairly large, the smaller lab sections make the class and professor/student relationship feel more personal. As I got into my major (Exercise Physiology) the class size was approximately 40 students with lab sizes of 10-15. Due to having class with these students every day my junior and senior year, we all became quite familiar with one another making for a very comfortable learning environment. Once I got into graduate school (Physical Therapy) the class size turned to 36 (it is now 48). Once again, seeing these classmates every day, working with them in labs/clinic, and group projects made our class more like a family.

Cadaver Experience

Monday, May 5th, 2014

This semester (and last semester) I had a class that required cadaver experience. We had a practical on the back, neck, head, and abdomen. There was 33 questions where we go around the lab and look at the vein, artery, nerve, muscle, or ligament and name it. After today, I am done with the cadaver experience in my educational career. I took home my clothes to wash them, because they defiantly have a cadaver smell.

TA Dinner

Sunday, May 4th, 2014

Last Thursday was my last time TAing for a General Chemistry Lab! I’m definitely going to miss it! The students and the lab instructor that I worked for are super awesome and were a ton of fun to be around this year. As an end of the year celebration we (the lab TA’s and instructor) all went out to The Outback Steakhouse for some food. It was a lot of fun!
