Driving for the Job Fair

Thursday, October 3rd, 2019

Every year, Career Services organizes a shuttle going from St. Scholastica to wherever the annual job fair in the area is taking place. Last year it was at the University of Wisconsin, Superior, and this year it was at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. As per usual, recruiters from all over the state came to hire freshly minted undergraduates in all sorts of fields. As last year, this year I drove the shuttle going to and from the job fair. It was interesting to drive people to the fair as I heard about their hopes and aspirations, and then see how it went for them on the way back!

I Got a Job!

Saturday, May 20th, 2017

This is very late news, but I got a job! I will be teaching 1st grade at DaVinci Academy of Arts & Science, starting this August. I was offered this position a few days after I interviewed (this was the school I interviewed at and was an hour late, due to a flat tire). I found out about the position through the Minnesota Education Job Fair and applied for a pre-select interview. I was then offered a second interview and after that… I was offered the job! DaVinci is a charter school in the cities. I feel very fortunate to receive an offer to teach 1st grade, because that wasn’t even originally available! I thought I was applying for 2nd grade. Additionally, my school highly values the arts, so I get to incorporate my love for art into my classroom. There will also be intersession days where I get to focus on teaching an art topic!

Minnesota Education Job Fair

Friday, April 21st, 2017

Today was finally the big job fair! I realized I had forgotten to print general cover letters for the fair, so I ran a little later than expected leaving my house. Nevertheless, I arrived! At first, I was very overwhelmed because I had to park on the 7th floor of a parking ramp. SEVENTH FLOOR. I had thought all the cars were for the job fair. Later I realized, there were a few other groups at the convention center. Thank goodness.

Preparing for the Job Fair

Thursday, April 20th, 2017

Tomorrow is the Minnesota Education Job Fair! I have been nervous for the past week, getting ready for the job fair. I have been practicing interview questions, touching up my resume, and all sorts of things. My cooperating teacher let me leave right after school so I could pack and head home. That way, I could get to bed on time. I still had to print my resume, which I thought I’d get from OfficeMax. However, silly me didn’t realize how much resumes actually cost to be printed! Did anyone realize that resumes should be printed on fancy paper with cotton??
