Halloween Potluck

Monday, November 6th, 2017

On October 31, a day most refer to as Halloween, folks in the Marketing Department did not only dress up but also took the opportunity to have a potluck. Anyone could bring a meal to share and we gathered in the Mitchell Kitchenette, a hidden gem of a room at CSS. There was a variety of dishes and snacks, including chilli, my favorite. The same day, I had my first class in a Term II course at noon and had to hurry off after a tantalizing meal. I also had a driving test same day and at the end, I could agree my day was spooky and fun!

Pumpkin Carving

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2016

The international club hosted a pumpkin carving contest. I would particpate in the contest but since I am on the board as a treasure, I could not participate. Friday’s evening started off with about twenty or so pumpkins. I helped set up a couple of tables, distributed supplies, and set out snacks. Members of the club then came along and grabbed a pumpkin each. Several students knew the process of carving a pumpkin but a few did not. I had a fun time watching members teach each other how to carve a pumpkin and watching the amazing pumpkin carving skills. My favorite one was the pumpkin with Olaf from Frozen. The winners will be announced soon and will redeem a gift card from Superone. 14937898_738882306252868_1290646365_n

Harvest of Literature

Monday, October 31st, 2016

The elementary school I work at/have field experience at does not celebrate Halloween. Instead, they celebrate the Harvest of Literature… so books! Everyone is allowed to come to school dressed as their favorite book character. Each classroom spends the whole day reading books, because we invite parents to come in to read (dressed up as their favorite book character as well of course!). I was Ms. Frizzle and brought a Magic School Bus book. Although I didn’t get to read to the kids, they loved my costume! I got to attend field experience as well as work today, so it was a long day of costumes and orange hair. Most teachers are saying the next two days will be crazy because of the aftermath of sugar highs. If there are anywhere close to as hyper as they were after school, I’m scared!
