Northland Running Races

Monday, January 15th, 2018

The northland is home to some of the most pristine views of Lake Superior. Trails like the Superior Hiking Trail parallel the north shore similar to scenic highway 61; the infamous first 18 mile stretch of Grandma’s Marathon. Duluth and the surrounding area has so many great places to run, walk, hike, or bike. My girlfriend and I have come to enjoy running together as a hobby. It has been something that her and I do for stress relief and just for fun. We just recently capped off signing up for races for the 2018 year and all three races are in the northland.

Grandma’s Marathon Finish

Tuesday, June 20th, 2017

My second Grandma’s Marathon finish occurred this past weekend. It was really nice running weather, although slightly warm, but no complaints on my end. There were so many great participants, volunteers, and spectators who made the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and the Grandma’s Marathon a success! Pre-race, race, and post-race events were so much fun and I hope that if you ever have the opportunity to participate in some way, shape, or form that you take advantage. It is a great weekend full of fun and exciting events for all ages. It is also a fantastic time to see one of the events that make Duluth what it is!

Grandma’s Marathon

Tuesday, June 20th, 2017

This past weekend was Grandma’s weekend in Duluth.
This is a time when the local economy gets stimulated and a lot of people spend time outdoors or out eating and celebrating.
Every year a marathon brings in visitors from far and wide. There are 3 races: a 5K, a half marathon, and a full marathon. So whether you want to run 26.2 miles, 13.1 miles, or just 3.1 miles there is an option available for you!
There are a plethora of celebrations, pasta buffets, and entertainment events that happen pre- and post-race. Many people stay just one or two nights, but others make it a 4 day weekend so they can enjoy the sights in Duluth. The college hosts runners and spectators as guests during the marathon weekend, so it’s an interesting time to meet people at work for me.

The 41st annual Grandma’s Marathon will be getting under way this Saturday, June 17. Below are the answers to the Who, What, When, Where, and Why questions about each race. I, myself, will be running the full-marathon and am looking to set a personal record (PR) with a sub-4 hour marathon! We will just have to see! If you are running, Good Luck! The weather is looking like it will be a great day to run! If you are in town, I highly recommend heading down to Canal Park to witness this awesome event and to cheer some runners on!

Duluth Spring Weekend

Sunday, April 23rd, 2017

This weekend was filled with a lot of adventure and activity. The weather was absolutely beautiful for all kinds of outdoor plans. Below are a few pictures that I captured this weekend as I enjoyed the outdoors in Duluth with my friends and girlfriend. With such great spring weather I am excited for summer to get here…we might have to wait a few weeks. The weather outlook is showing 3-5 inches of snow on Thursday. Crazy how you can get a sunburn one day in Duluth and a couple days later you have to put your snow boots back on!
