Where to eat: Duluth

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2019

Famous Dave’s BBQ. Even though “famous” is part of the name, the restaurant is indeed famous–and for good reason. It has won multiple awards for its grilled food and barbecue, but the service is excellent, and they offer outstanding discounts that vary depending on what day of the week it is. We ate there on a day in which they happened to have a 50% off from all starters, and we feasted with delicious food for a very reasonable price. One last tip: don’t let yourself be fooled by the name “starter”. Two starters can comfortably feed two people!

African Heritage Night

Sunday, April 7th, 2019

“Free food” might be the biggest buzz word on campus, but quality free food is rather uncommon. This is why yesterday was special. In collaboration with UMD, St. Scholastica students organized a traditional feast followed by a series of shows honoring African culture. The massive buffet was full of delicious food typical of countries from all throughout Africa, and it was brought directly from specialized restaurants in the cities. There were over 20 different things, and you could choose to try as many as you could fit in your generously sized plate. Contrary to my expectations, none of them were spicy, but the quality of the food easily exceeded all expectations! As for the shows, I unfortunately can’t say I witnessed them first hand, but I have heard–and feel obliged to report–that they were outstanding!

The Weekend

I started my weekend with removing my battery from my alarm clock, totally blocking off any chance of having my sleep and dreams interrupted. And I slept, and slept again.

College Diet = Ramen

Stereotypically idea of the college diet is beer and ramen noodles. I do not drink beer, but ramen is something that I usually have in my cupboard. But I like to spice up and add some substance to the college friendly meal. I’ve tried to make stir-fry with ramen noodles and soup. I’ve never tried Crunchy Ramen Snack Mix, or Pepperoni Ramen Pizza, but I may have to try something new tonight! This site shows 27 different ways to spice up Ramen Noodles- click here for some intriguing recipes
