I had the honor of attending the Lion UK premiere last night in Leicester Square, London. Lion tells the true story of a young boy from India who becomes lost after falling asleep on a train. Twenty-five years later, he is living with his adoptive parents in Australia. We follow his story and journey in searching for his family in India. I cannot even begin to describe what it felt like to be in the presence of these talented people. The night was one of the best experiences of my life. I was moved to tears by the film; they were streaming down my cheeks by the end. The work Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara, and the others did was extraordinary. I left the Odeon theatre filled with great inspiration and motivation to continue pursuing what I truly desire to do in life. I am forever grateful to The College of St. Scholastica for enabling me to be here, experiencing all that I am. I am cherishing every single breath, moment, and experience.

My Friends Made a Movie

Thursday, May 19th, 2016

Throughout the course of this past year, my CSS friends Chris, Harris, and Kyle, have been making and producing their first feature film, I Voted. I had the opportunity to audition for the film and hear about the progress as it went along. After a couple of showings in the Duluth community, I Voted has now been made available online for all to enjoy. I am very proud of their work and endlessly inspired by their creativity.

Student Film at Zeitgeist

Wednesday, May 4th, 2016

A dynamic duo of CSS students have made a film that is being shown at the Zeitgeist Arts Café, or Zinema, this Saturday. The trailer looks like it is a very well put together film and it definitely caught my attention. The students who made the film have their own production company so they’re pretty serious about what they create. I heard they have plans to move out to Los Angeles after graduation. There’s a lot of hidden talent here at CSS.

Today, we watched a very interesting documentary in my Graphic Design class called Helvetica. It explored the art of typography and type design. I had never focused on type much in the past, besides when I was working to create some sort of graphic. Helvetica took us on a journey into the creation behind type fonts and why some work better than others. Helvetica, the font, is thought by many to be the perfect type. It is clear, modern, and works for everything. I learned a lot about the evolution of design, and I genuinely enjoyed the film.

Today, I got to help my friends out with a small step in the making of their movie, I Voted. It is a film that examines power and corruption, and the whole project is something really incredible. Writing the script, casting actors, filming, and editing will have all been done by my friends, who I may add are also still in college. I am very inspired by them all. What they worked on today was filming of a small scene that may or may not be included in the full length film. They needed ten-or-so of us extras to act out some peculiar scenarios for the lead to observe. At this point, they have released a short trailer, and the film will premiere April 30th at the Cinema in downtown Duluth.
