Winter Fun 101

Friday, January 12th, 2018

Last week I was scrolling through Facebook at just the right time to see a picture posted by Winter Fun 101. The photo was captioned, “Hey! The first person to correctly guess where we are will get two all day lift tickets at Spirit Mountain. Go:”. I quickly typed in the location and WON! I just received my lift tickets in the mail and am looking at dates on the calendar for a good day to go shred the slopes. Winter Fun 101 has some fantastic information on awesome things to do during the winter in the upper midwest. Their website has an event calendar and locations you can go to participate in activities like for alpine skiing, fat tire biking, ice sailing, ice climbing, dog sledding, snowmobiling, snowboarding, and cross country skiing. There is always something to do up in Duluth and the surrounding area during the winter months. So get out there and enjoy the opportunities in the backyard of the College of St. Scholastica!

Frigid Duluth Temps

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

It is no secret that Duluth can have temperatures that make outdoor activities hard to tolerate in the winter. During my time at St. Scholastica in undergrad I found there was always some sort of activity going on to attend on campus (i.e. grocery bingo, mini concerts, comedians, discussions, plays, intramurals, etc.). These types of activities are great ways to meet new people on campus and win free prizes!

Duluth Lifestyle

Saturday, September 9th, 2017

You learn to love it if you don’t already.

The air is crisp from the lake. You realize you’re in the city that embodies “fall” best of all. Take advantage of the nature around you. Walk, hike, bike, explore, get lost, and find new places before snow falls. Enjoy this time of the year. It will become your favorite!

Summer Green Thumb

Tuesday, May 30th, 2017

My girlfriend and I recently stopped by Cummings Greenhouse, located on W Arrowhead rd. in Duluth, to pick up some vegetables for the summer. We decided on tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, basil, and cilantro. We tried cucumbers, peppers, and green beans last year but they became challenging with out limited space. It is fun to tend to a garden and have a little bit of responsibility of watering and tending to the vegetables throughout the summer. We also thoroughly enjoy when we can harvest our veggies and incorporate them into our meals.

Summer Job Search

Thursday, May 25th, 2017

As a native to Duluth I will be here all summer and the job search is on. Ideally, I want to find something relevant to what I’m pursuing for graduate school, however, realistically that’s pretty difficult when I’m looking for a 3-month position. During undergrad, finding internships was extremely easy with the help of the career guidance counselors and work study programs. Now, I don’t qualify for many of these internships so competition is much higher. While I am still looking for work relevant to marketing, public relations, and advertising, I have accepted that I may just need to find something that will be fun for me to do. Maybe I will work in one of the tourist shops down town or somewhere fun like Adventure Zone. Duluth has tons of job opportunities, I just need to look a little harder.
