Winter No More

Thursday, April 19th, 2018

Spring? Is that you? Today in Duluth, MN, we actually got a taste of spring! In fact, it got above 50 degrees, so that means it is basically summer here. It was a nice day to walk from class to class in a t-shirt and soak up some sun. This warm weather has me and everyone else feeling hopeful that winter is coming to an end. I certainly hope so! Here in the dorms, everyone walks around looking like ghosts because it has been winter for so long, but not any more. The sun is out and summer is coming! Baseball and softball actually got to play games today after having many of their games postponed, so I am sure they are feeling good. A friend of mine informed me that as of today, 19 days until I get to go home for the summer and enjoy the stress free life. The countdown is on.

Lake Superior Gets Angry!

Monday, April 16th, 2018

There is no doubt that Lake Superior is upset about the delay of Spring weather here in the Northland. The waves from Lake Superior were crashing into the Canal Park shores the past few days during the most recent winter storm. My girlfriend and I thought it would be a good idea to go down and check out the “beauty” of the powerful Lake Superior. We may or may not have gotten a little too close and walked away soaked. It was quite the site along the Lakewalk as everything was covered in a thick layer of ice. There is always something new to see or witness around Duluth, if you are willing to brave the elements!

Duluth – Best City For Pet Travelers

Tuesday, April 10th, 2018

You heard it right. Duluth was just named the best city in the country for pet travelers by GoPetFriendly.com readers! Check out their article! It is no surprise that Duluth won the top prize with so many great walking and hiking trails, as well as pet-friendly restaurants and shops. Pet owners know how difficult it can be to travel with the “kids”, therefore it is nice to know when you travel to Duluth you will find many pet-friendly accommodations. Prospective students….maybe that pup you have been wanting your entire life will find a home with you during your time in Duluth!

Brighton Beach, Duluth

Tuesday, April 10th, 2018

Brighton Beach is a public park area located just north of downtown Duluth. It sits right on the shore of Lake Superior and offers many beautiful views of the lake and of the city. In the summer, you’ll find people swimming, walking, grilling, and spending time looking for agates. In the winter, you’ll find people walking their dogs, enjoying the views, and climbing around on ice covered rocks. This is one of my favorite spots in Duluth because you feel you are in a secluded place, yet you can see the lift bridge and downtown just a few miles away. I went here recently with my friend from UMD, who I graduated high school with. We walked around, talked, took in the views, and of course climbed around on the rocks, hoping to not get splashed by an ice cold wave. If you ever want a place to go and relax and take in the Duluth, MN views, this is the place to go, being only 15 minutes from campus.

Cheap Movie Tickets!

Monday, April 9th, 2018

If there is one thing that college students love to do, it’s going to movies with our friends. There is a great movie theatre in downtown Duluth called Marcus Theatres and they offer some awesome deals for college students that I wanted to mention. One of those deals is “Movie Tuesdays” where any movie is only $5 to see. They also have “Student Thursdays” where admission is only $6. The theatre is very nice and in a great location also. My friends and I are planning on taking advantage of one of these deals this week as we are planning to go see the hottest new horror movie “A Quiet Place”. One of my favorite parts about going to college here in Duluth is that there is so much happening in the city and so much to do that I am never bored. Whether it’s going to a movie, to Spirit Mountain to ski or snowboard, Chester Park, the mall, or whatever else it might be, there is no shortage of things to do for fun both in Duluth and also right on campus, as well.
