Philosophy Publication

The Philosophy Chair recently sent an email to those students who are usually involved within the department to see if any of us was interested in submitting a paper to the Minnesota Philosophical Society’s annual conference. I am interested and plan on sending something, but the point here is that the school is small enough that the chair of the philosophy department was able to handpick multiple students who she knew would be interested in this opportunity, and give us a heads up. Some people may criticize small liberal arts schools for being too ‘familiar’, but I see this as a huge advantage. Indeed, by developing a relationship with your professors, you access a world of resources and knowledge for which you’d otherwise have to work really hard on your own!

Undergraduate Research

Tuesday, November 1st, 2016

As a McNair Scholar I submitted my abstract of my summer research project, a Rhetorical Analysis of the Still I Rise Benefit Concert, to several conferences. Today, I found out I was accepted to the New Directions Conference “Musicking Equity: Enacting social justice through music education”  at Michigan State University this Spring. I will be presenting my poster to Faculty, Graduate Students, and Undergraduate Students interested in music and how it relates to social justice. The conference will further prepare me for graduate school and will be a great networking opportunity. Being a McNair Scholar and doing undergraduate research has been a great experience. I know these opportunities will take me far!
