Frigid Duluth Temps

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

It is no secret that Duluth can have temperatures that make outdoor activities hard to tolerate in the winter. During my time at St. Scholastica in undergrad I found there was always some sort of activity going on to attend on campus (i.e. grocery bingo, mini concerts, comedians, discussions, plays, intramurals, etc.). These types of activities are great ways to meet new people on campus and win free prizes!

When Will Summer Come

Monday, May 22nd, 2017

It is hard to believe that this is Duluth in May. It’s been so cold and rainy. I can’t complain too heavily about the weather, it’s been great for my friends who fish.
Yesterday while running errands the fog was thick and soft, like a blanket. I can’t believe this city is so beautiful, even when the weather is so dreary. Cool, misty days mean a lot of people are able to go jogging. I love to see people out enjoying the beauty of the city, it adds a layer of intrigue when the fog is as thick as pea soup.
I went for a short walk, and after getting a fine sifting of water droplets on my hair and clothing I headed inside for some warm apple cider. Ah, all the perks of fall but without the impending winter! I had quite a lovely Sunday.

As much as I love Duluth, I am not the biggest fan of the weather. Snow is great when you’re skiing, skating, and sledding, however, not so much when you get your car stuck. Pro-tip from a native Duluthian who just learned the hard way: just because your car is new does not mean you can make it down the unplowed road. That said, being stuck wasn’t too terrible because I was rescued by some friends with shovels and salt (both things I did not have in my car but have since purchased). It’s also super important to keep extra hats, boots, and other snow gear. So if you’re thinking of bringing your car to college, make sure it has all the necessities for snow.

Cars are Dying!

Saturday, December 17th, 2016

It’s been despicably freezing here in Duluth these past few days. It currently is 1 degree right now and the low -16. Since Thursday, I can’t tell you how many cars I’ve seen on campus getting jumped! People have sent out an email or two about having people parked near them jump their cars even. When the weather is this cold, older cars have a harder time starting. Last year I needed help jumping my car and people were pretty helpful about it. This year, I’m just happy I have a newer car and don’t need to worry so much about it happening. If you do need your jumped, security can provide you cables or there’s always someone on campus who will respond to a community email!

Unnoticed Snow Fall

Monday, December 5th, 2016

So today I realized that I was running low on a lot more groceries than I had first thought this past weekend, so I knew I needed to go shopping. My only question was whether to go today or on Wednesday after accounting. I looked at the weather early in the day and saw that it is expected to be colder on Wednesday than today, so I decided to go today. But what I didn’t check was the chances of snow or rain, so walking to the grocery store was completely fine, walking back was something else. By the time I got back to my apartment I was completely wet from all the snow, my bag I use to carry my groceries was completely soaked and my glasses were all steamed up. So duly noted now that when checking the weather to remember to check the rainfall percentage as well.
