Orestes: Blood and Light

Friday, March 31st, 2017

Yesterday the English & Arts Club attended Orestes: Blood and Light at the St. Scholastica theater. The stage setting was rather modern for a Greek tragedy, complete with working lamps and a couch that could be from ikea. It was a little confusing when some aspects were certainly modern, such as FBI like characters with guns, but other aspects were very Greek, such as the shrine to the God Apollo. I’ve seen several plays, typically Shakespeare, translated to more modern eras and I tend to prefer the classic route. Despite this personal preference, the actors put on a really great show of a story I was experiences for the first time. There were some classic Greek appearances I recognized, such as Helen of Troy, and new ones. If you’re a fan of drama and tragedy, definitely attend this show! I am thankful the theater continues to put on free showings for students.

Coloring Night

Thursday, January 26th, 2017

While the English & Arts Club is usually doing fun stuff like seeing plays or hosting Murder Mystery dinner parties, we also like to set aside some relaxation time. Today we spent time coloring, painting, playing board games, and watching cartoons. We printed lots of fun coloring pages as well as the more complex “therapeutic” kind. It was nice to just hang out and not have to do anything. Next week, we are back into the swing of things with the free showing of The Miss Firecracker Contest and an improv comedy class is in the works. Photography Projects

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016

Like I have said before, I’m in a photography class for my fine arts general education credits, and I have had so much work to do in that class recently.  We have four really big assignments due on Thursday and I just printed my pictures for my final portfolio today.  I’m nervous to see how they will turn out because it is expensive to print off pictures and if they don’t look good then I am kind of out of luck.  We also turn in those photos electronically, but I just really hope that my professor likes my work.  When I had showed him the preview to my portfolio, he basically said “meh”, so I had my sister help me with it because she has taken the class already.  All in all, there is nothing I can do about it now so I might as well not stress about it.

Photography Class

Thursday, January 28th, 2016

This semester I decided to take a photography class to complete my general Fine Arts credits. Since I’m terrible with the drawing and painting types of art, I figured photography is the way to go. My mom used to be a photographer so it’s nice going to her for help. Also, my sister took this class so she has good insight on what the professor likes to see. So far, I’ve really enjoyed photography! We get to rent out cameras for the semester and use them however we please. I went out a couple days ago to get some shots and it was surprisingly fun. I plan on going downtown and to some other places around Duluth hopefully to get some amazing pictures!
