SHT Adventure

Wednesday, July 12th, 2017

My freshman thru senior year roommate, Brody O, and I recently went on a Superior Hiking Trail (SHT) adventure beginning in Silver Bay and continuing on to Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center, about 2 miles north of Highway 1 on the SHT. We wanted to get up to George H. Manitou Crosby State Park, but due to the difficult terrain, 50lb backpacks, and a close to depleted water supply with no refills we decided to halt the trip prematurely. It was an awesome trip, regardless and we learned quite a bit as we traversed the SHT.

Looking for adventure while you spend time at St. Scholastica? It is an absolute MUST to visit CSS’s Outdoor Pursuit website. I recently rented a hiking backpack for a couple days and it only cost me $6. They have just about everything you could need for an outdoor hiking/camping/paddling/canoeing trip and you can get it for a very cheap price. Check out the rental list HERE and start planning your adventure.

SUPerior Paddle Boarding

The event was affordable and an experience I will never forget. The lake is a major part what makes Duluth what it is and I thought this was a neat idea to have a little adventure that incorporated Lake Superior. Not to mention it was on the longest day of the year, the summer solstice, also known as my birthday!

I asked one of my good pals and now 2nd year DPT student at CSS, Matt Klein, “What are the top three reasons you love the College of St. Scholastica’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program?” His answers were…

Temperance River State Park

Tuesday, June 6th, 2017

My younger brother and his girlfriend recently made the trip north from central Illinois to Duluth, MN for a few days. We camped at Lamb’s Resort in Schroeder, MN and made the most of the next day. We checked out Temperance River State Park, Carlton Peak, Sven & Ole’s, Stone Harbor Outfitters, and Oberg Mountain. We covered some serious mileage on highway 61, park trails, and the superior hiking trail. It was a nice little get away and reminded me about the beauty of the area around Duluth, MN!
