First Snow

The first dusting of snow for the season!

The first dusting of snow for the season!

Well it wouldn’t be Duluth without a good snow storm! Last week we got our first couple inches of snow for the season. It has been very unusual so far since we have had a longer fall season with warm weather, but this snow has been bound to happen.

I always have mixed emotions about winter and here’s why:

Pros Cons
Pretty surroundings Slippery roads
Outdoor activities Cold wind
Comfy clothes weather More expensive utility bill
Christmas is around the corner Staying on top of shoveling
Holiday decorations Darker sooner
Cider season No four-wheel drive
Mittens (my cat) is more cuddly
Love Your Melon beanies

On the night of the snowstorm, my roommates and a couple friends came over to play card games and enjoy each other’s company while we watched the snow storm. It was really fun and a great break from school. One of the perk’s about where I live (right next to campus, same road as softball field) is that I can walk to stores nearby if I need to. The Kenwood Shopping Center is about a 10 minute walk from my house, so if I can’t drive on the roads, I can always get to the grocery store, restaurants, Walgreens, the bank, etc. My landlord has also been really great in getting us supplies we need to keep our driveway clean. We have a snowblower, shovels and a full supply of salt!
