    Pat's Bio:
My name is Pat Bigaouette. I am a Senior Biology major. I run on the cross country and track teams at Scholastica. I currently live in Somers Hall as the Residential Advisor for Ground Floor North. Also, I am actively involved in Scholastica's theater program and hope to get cast in one of the four shows this season. This summer I conducted clinical research at Hennepin County Medical Center in the Emergency room. I also traveled to New York City to pick up a friend from school and, of course, saw the show "Wicked" on Broadway.

Friday the 13th

In case most of you missed it, last Friday was Friday the 13th. If you are upset about missing a major superstitious holiday, don’t worry, there will be another one in  July. In fact, there will be three Friday the 13ths in 2012 (January, April, July). As most of you know, Friday the 13th is for the superstitious holiday, so I thought it would be fun to look up superstitions that revolve around the number 13.

1)   Hospitals and hotels regularly have no room or floor number 13

2)    Many cities don’t have 13th street or 13th avenue.

3)   If you have 13 letters in your name, you’re said to have the devil’s luck (Charles Manson)

4)   Many airports skip the 13th gate.

5)   Many airplanes have no 13th row.

6)   Italians omit the number 13 from their national lottery.

7)   More than 80% of high rises lack a 13th floor.

8)   In Florence, Italy the house between number 12 and 14 are labeled 12 and a half.

9)   Traditionally in hangings, there are 13 knots in the noose and 13 steps leading up to the moment of death.

10)   Many blame the unluck of the number 13 for the ill-fated mission to the moon, Apollo 13.

11)  Tarot card number 13 is the Death Card, depicting the Grim Reaper.

Hope you have a lucky day.
