On community participation
Getting involved on campus comes with its own set of major perks: meeting other students, taking all sorts of classes, participating in events, activities etc. As graduation looms around the corner for me, I have started reflecting more and thinking ahead of things I would want to do before this chapter ends. Looking back, I realize that one of the biggest takeaways for me has been the importance of being an active part of community. Some of the benefits I have reaped by trying, even by a little, to be involved on campus include:
- A well-rounded college experience: There’s more to college than classes! Or people in your apartment or in your class or club.
- Building self-confidence: I remember in my freshman year when I successfully organized two thematic event that brought 5 faculty members in total to talk about each of the event themes. That experience was a spark that led me to try doing more things!
- Great friendships and conversations!
There’s many other ways in which participating in the college community can benefit one and the entire community. Hopefully this inspires you to take part in Community Day events next week!
