Three days out…

Marathon week is finally here and, surprisingly enough, I’m feeling pretty zen about things. I had some ants in my pants earlier this week, but my nerves seemed to have settled, or maybe my anxiety has turned to numbness? Either way, now it’s just a matter of embracing the build-up and enjoying these last few days pre-race. I’ve already decided I am never, ever, ever doing this again so I need to make the most of my first and last week of marathon anticipation!

To help mentally prepare for 26.2, my thoughtful coworker and training buddy extraordinaire Amanda has been sending me inspirational running videos every day this week (except for this one which is NOT INSPIRATIONAL AT ALL). I’ve also been practicing some meditation techniques and visualizing myself crossing the finish line. Whoever said running is ninety percent mental was one hundred percent right. After eighteen weeks of training, I know my body is physically ready. Now I just need to convince my brain of that and I’ll be in good shape come Saturday morning.

Well, off to do some carb-loading and Gatorade-gulping. Wish me luck! I’ll post a race update next week!
