On our way to #1…

Outside Magazine‘s annual Best Towns Contest is on, and Duluthians are taking this tournament very, very seriously. So seriously, we’re just one round away from being crowned the best place to live in America. Not too shabby!

Since May 15, Duluth has ousted Columbia, MO; Athens, OH; LaCrosse, WI; and Minnesota’s own Minneapolis to advance to the final round: a neck-and-neck battle between our beloved Zenith City and Provo, UT.

In true Duluth fashion, the whole community has banded together (with some help from folks like Governor Dayton, Senator Al Franken, and five of my favorite dudes Trampled by Turtles) to spread the word and encourage folks to #voteDuluth! And for good reason, Duluth is home to the largest freshwater lake in the world, miles of biking and hiking trails, scenic overlooks, rivers, golf courses, campgrounds,  nature centers, and parks. Our four seasons also offer ample opportunity to get out and enjoy beautiful Duluth in any weather, though we’re especially well-versed in finding outdoor winter activities to keep us busy.

My own calendar offers just a snippet of some of Duluth’s amazing summer outdoor activities, too: June 21 – Grandma’s Marathon! June 28 – Rhubarb Festival! June 28 (later that day) – outdoor music concert at Bayfront featuring the aforementioned Trampled by Turtles and another one of my all-time favorite Minnesota bands Low! Summers are fleeting here; gotta enjoy every minute while you can.

If you haven’t cast your vote already, be sure to head over to the site and #voteDuluth. *Fingers crossed* ’til then!
