It’s my dog’s birthday today.

Only thing on my calendar today!

Yes. We celebrate Olive’s day of birth, and today our sweet little poochie turns 5 years old. {Happy birthday, Olive!}

Last year, KJ and I accidentally pulled a Sixteen Candles and remembered her birthday just as we were going to bed. I honestly can’t remember the last time we felt so guilt-ridden. It was terrible. We cooked her a belated birthday meal the next night, and she was very forgiving about the whole situation. Olive is pretty wonderful like that.

Olive's b-day, 2 years ago

This year, I’m making her another special meal (haven’t figured out what yet, but have lots of recipes to choose from our doggie cookbook). Maybe we’ll go for an extra long walk and cap off the night with a little Homeward Bound – her favorite movie.

Whatever we decide on, we’re both looking forward to a lovely night in with our lil muffin. “Let’s make her last only child birthday a good one,” KJ wrote to me via email this morning.

He’s pretty wonderful like that, too.
