Day 6: Stormy Weather on a stormy weather day
Today, the College hosted an Admissions Open House. Our Open House events invite prospective students and their families to learn more about CSS, tour the campus, and meet with faculty from all of our programs and majors. Some students also opt to stay overnight in the dorms (a great way to meet fellow Saints and experience campus life from a student perspective). If YOU still haven’t visited CSS yet, you can find all of our upcoming events and visit dates here: http://www2.css.edu/app/admissions/campusVisit/new/.
This afternoon’s event was made extra special by the cool, lush sounds of our Jazz Band, their instruments blending together to play a welcoming tune as folks filed into the Mitchell Auditorium foyer. Led by Marianne Connolly, Assistant Professor in the Music Education department, the band’s music was a fantastic way to combat the dreary, storm-threatening clouds that filled the Duluth sky just about all day. Inside the Auditorium, feet were tapping and heads were lightly bobbing; tell-tale signs that the band’s energy was truly infectious.
My favorite? Stormy Weather, a song made famous by two of the original soul sisters, Lena Horne and Billie Holiday. It’s amazing how transformative music can be. Outside, the wind was starting to pick up and the sky was a sea of gray and gloom. Inside, though, the stormy weather was no match for the Jazz Band’s own Stormy Weather, and I was thankful for the cheerful distraction.
