    Kathryn's Bio:
Hello! My name is Kathryn McCarrick. I grew up in Saint Paul as an only child. I am an Elementary Education major hoping to specialize in 4th, 5th or 6th grade. I chose CSS because of the vibrant and wholesome community that inspires me to be a better person every day. In my free time I hang out with friends, study and watch various Netflix comedy specials (Bo Burnham is an all-time favorite). On campus I am involved in inkeeping, where students can choose to stay with me in my dorm overnight, and the choral program.

It’s On Us Rally

Today on campus I participated in the It’s On Us Rally. This rally was focused on supporting those people who are sexual assault survivors in our community. This can also be attributed to the #MeToo movement.

The goal of the movement is to show awareness that people on campus care about your story if you choose to tell it and someone is always there to listen. The opening speaker specifically pointed out that, “you are not alone.”

They chose today because April is Sexual Assault awareness month and each Tuesday students on campus are encouraged to wear teal to show their support.

Most people at the rally also signed a pledge on https://www.itsonus.org/ . Committing to helping create a culture of consent, bystander intervention and survivor support. I added the link above so you can choose to pledge if you would like but of course you are under no obligation to.

CSS is all about community and if you go here, you certainly hear that word tossed around a lot. Either by Megan Perry Spears (the Dean of Students), in classes or on the syllabus at the beginning of each semester where you are promised the support of a community. That is something taken extremely serious here but if you need backup, someone on campus always has your back.
