    Jacob's Bio:
I have explored a wealth of incredible opportunities and experiences at CSS. While preparing for a career in medicine, I have pursued biochemical and philosophic studies while serving as a Residential Advisor and Student Senator. My passions inspired me to participate in multiple international service-learning and study abroad events in Guatemala, Nicaragua and China. While completing a fifth year through CSS to fulfill my philosophy degree, I have chosen to explore an exciting opportunity to study abroad aboard a transatlantic voyage: Semester at Sea.

Embarking on the journey of a lifetime

On the fateful day of August 22nd, I packed my bags at the Generator Hostel in London, England and made my way towards the London Heathrow Airport. Once I arrived at the Hilton Hotel at the airport, I convened with all the other work study and scholarship students to board the MV-Explorer a day early in South Hampton England.

I failed to mention that I received the IMPACT Service Learning Scholarship, which promotes international service work and service-learning while traveling with Semester at Sea. I’ll disclose more information about the events of my scholarship throughout my journey.

After a two-hour shuttle ride and numerous rambunctious conversations, I laid eyes upon the MV-Explorer for the first time along with 30 new friends. I must say, it was breathtaking.

After unpacking and eating dinner, I toured the ship and hung out on the upper deck with some buddies. In my next posts, I’ll fill you in on the culture aboard the ship and all the classes I am taking during the voyage.
