    Jesse's Bio:
I graduated in 2015 with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology and am now in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program here at CSS. I played on the baseball team at CSS for four years. I was also a statistics tutor and currently work as personal care assistant in Duluth. I love the outdoors, hunting fishing, hiking, etc. While being at St. Scholastica I have noticed the “family” atmosphere and I am truly enjoying every second of it.

VO2 Max Test

Yesterday was the big test! No, not the Final Exam…the VO2 max test in Physiological Assessment. I wasn’t fortunate to take the test due to my concussion but was there running the protocol and cheering other students on as they pushed themselves to the bring of exhaustion.

The VO2 max test is a test where we follow a pretty exact protocol (Bruce or Agressive). Both protocols last about 12 minutes, where the patient gets his/her heart rate to the max, their RER (respiratory exchange ratio) around 1.15 and the test ends when the patient says they’re done, enough is enough. The speed increases as does the grade of the treadmill as the minutes pass.

Exercise Physiology labs are always a blast because they are hands on and we as the students are the patients. Below are a couple pictures from two of my buddies VO2 max test.

The beginning of Colin's test, he followed the Bruce protocol.
