    Jesse's Bio:
I graduated in 2015 with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology and am now in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program here at CSS. I played on the baseball team at CSS for four years. I was also a statistics tutor and currently work as personal care assistant in Duluth. I love the outdoors, hunting fishing, hiking, etc. While being at St. Scholastica I have noticed the “family” atmosphere and I am truly enjoying every second of it.

PT, Alumni, and Friend

Dr. Lahti, one of our baseball alumni, team physical therapists, and good friend of many of us ball players was recently on campus to help out one of my teammates. One of our star sophomore catchers, Jake Kuschke, has been suffering from lower back pain for quite some time now. Recently, his pain has flared up and with workouts beginning he wanted to get it checked out. Dr. Lahti (DJ) is extremely helpful with our program, providing us with our off-season workout program, a contact with a place for prospective PT students like myself to go and observe at his office in Poplar, WI, and a very intellectual physical therapist who helps us with our injuries.

DJ came over to Jake’s room in Birch to evaluate him and see what he could do to relieve some of the pain Jake was having. I decided to head over and observe DJ work on Jake, so I took a few pictures while I was there. DJ noticed an asymmetrical alignment of Jake’s hips and did some mobilizations to adjust the alignment. After about a half hour of different techniques, Jake’s hips were realigned and leg lengths were measured. At the beginning evaluation Jake’s hips were off by an inch and a half. After the mobilizations the alignment was only off by about a 1/4 of an inch.

It’s pretty neat to observe DJ work on patients especially to visually see a change for the better. Instances like these are what make me glad I’m a part of this program and excited for continuing education in my major and hopefully on to PT school.
