I graduated in 2015 with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology and am now in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program here at CSS. I played on the baseball team at CSS for four years. I was also a statistics tutor and currently work as personal care assistant in Duluth. I love the outdoors, hunting fishing, hiking, etc. While being at St. Scholastica I have noticed the “family” atmosphere and I am truly enjoying every second of it.

Northwoods Outdoors

Being in northern Minnesota the past 5 years I have experienced the excitement of hunters as deer season begins. Tomorrow is the opening day of firearm deer season (Novemeber 5-20) in northern MN. I personally am going out to hunt and I know many of my classmates are heading to their cabins for the weekend to try and bag their deer. For me the meat will be used to stock my freezer for meals throughout the year.

Many individuals have their stand for or against hunting. Up here it is kind of a way of life. Keeps the population down, puts food on the table, and can be a family experience. When living in Duluth it is also important to know when the hunting dates are because many trails and forests in the Duluth area are on state owned land that is open to public hunting. Wearing blaze orange or choosing different trails to run, bike, or walk on may be something you would choose to do in order to be safe during the hunting seasons.

Finally, if you are a hunter and looking at CSS as a school to attend there are multiple sportsman stores around Duluth. The one’s that come to mind are Gander Mountain, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Farm King, and Chalstrom’s. Chalstrom’s is my go to for any hunting specific (gear/questions/licenses) things that I need. They also have an archery range in the back of their store in case you are looking to site in your bow before taking to the woods.

For all those going out into the woods the next few weeks: Good luck and be safe!
