Frist Clinical Internship
As a student of physical therapy in the DPT program at the College of St. Scholastica we are required to complete four clinical internships. Today I started my first of the four internships. I am doing an 8-week internship at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
I am working in an acute care setting that works mainly bed side with general surgery, cardio, orthopeodic, pediatric and neuro patients – I am mainly working on the general surgery floor. Day 1 was a great success as I completed orientation training to get familiar with the electronic medical records/documentation system. I also saw multiple patients today and was able to put into practice what I have learned in the classroom over the past year!
My clinical instructor (CI) is awesome and is very easy going. She is determined to get me as much experience and education as possible in the next 8 weeks. I will be working M-F from 7:45-4:15.
I was lucky enough to find housing, since the site does no provide housing, with a good friend/teammate and CSS alumni who graduated with me in the Exercise Physiology program in 2015. He is currently in the Athletic Training masters program at NDSU! Great to live with a great friend, save some money, and get a great clinical internship experience.
Welcome to the real world!
