    Jesse's Bio:
I graduated in 2015 with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology and am now in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program here at CSS. I played on the baseball team at CSS for four years. I was also a statistics tutor and currently work as personal care assistant in Duluth. I love the outdoors, hunting fishing, hiking, etc. While being at St. Scholastica I have noticed the “family” atmosphere and I am truly enjoying every second of it.

Dry Needling Therapy

One of the up and coming treatment interventions in physical therapy is dry needling. It is a type of therapy that uses a small, sterile needle to release trigger points in muscle tissue. The link below gives a more detailed description. The department of physical therapy hosted a presentation done by two PT’s from Sanford Health in Bemidji. They came and spoke about dry needling, it’s uses, and demo’d on one of the 2nd year students. This particular student had a significant trigger point in his gluteus medius – a very common place for ultra marathon runners to get tight and experience trigger points.

Throughout the year the PT program has multiple presentations like this that give us as students the opportunity to learn about and experience some of the techniques/ideas/practices that are currently going on in the physical therapy field.

A 2nd year student of physical therapy at CSS was the patient for a dry needling presentation from a few physical therapists from Sanford Medical in Bemidji.
