Chili Herbie-Style
Sitting in our kitchen is the, Home Plate Hits – Recipes from the Kitchens of the Minnesota Twins’ Wives, Players, and Staff. Last weekend my good friend and roommate Kyle Flagstad, his girlfriend Danielle Donahue, and I decided to open up the recipe book and pick out one of the chili options that were listed. We chose to cook the Chili Herbie-Style from Jeanie and Kent Hrbek (page 44).
It was a fun time in the kitchen goofing around and although, I may have handed over the onion powder instead of garlic powder the chili ended up amazing. We also learned that we should of drained the meat before putting it in the pot, it was a little more runny than we had hoped. All in all it ended up being pretty delicious. It filled our bellies that night and all three of us were able to take a serving or two home to heat up for another meal. It is fall in Duluth, the leaves on the trees are maginicently birght, the weather has been gorgeous, and it’s football season. All of this equals “Chili Season”.

Mixing the ingredients for our Chili Herbie-Style chili.

Danielle chopping up some onion…Yes, she was tearing up.

Kyle and I, pouring in the tomatoes.

We were so hungry but we had to let the chili simmer.

A little shredded cheese on top and dinner is served!
