I am a senior majoring in communication and minoring in photography. The College of St. Scholastica has been a great place for me to be throughout my college journey. Quiet Night in the Photo Lab

Not many students have been into the photo lab this evening; it’s been very quiet here. The students in the photography 1 class have been using the lab this semester to develop their black and white film and print their own photos in the darkroom. It tends to be more busy here¬†when there is a deadline coming up in the class.

I just began working as a lab tech here this year, after taking the photo 1 course last year. The process of developing and printing can be time consuming, but also very interesting to learn about. In the course you learn how to control a 35mm camera manually, develop film, print photos, and other aspects of photography. The photo I included was taken during a trip to the Apostle Islands during the fall semester while I was taking the class. I developed my film in the photo lab and used the darkroom here to print the photo.

Working in the photo lab has taught me more about the process of developing film, and I’ve been able to help the students who are learning about black and white film photography.
