    Emily's Bio:
I am a senior majoring in communication and minoring in photography. The College of St. Scholastica has been a great place for me to be throughout my college journey. I am fascinated by the world and am currently studying abroad at Regent's University London in England. I live for the little things and the adventures I stumble upon everyday. In my free time I enjoy practicing yoga, listening to and writing music, taking pictures, and exploring.

Alternative Photography

Alternative Photography Methods has been such an incredible class thus far in the semester. Today, I had the chance to make my first set of Van Dyke prints. For this process, we paint the emulsion, the chemicals that allow the print to appear, on to our water color paper in the dark room, place our sensitized paper and negative out in the sunlight, and then wash our prints in the dark room. The final product is a brownish-red-orange print like the one shown below. I used a digital photograph to make the negative I used to expose the print. In one sentence, I would describe this course as an extraordinary journey in to the world of possibility the photographic experience has to offer. I have found a deeper understanding for the way cameras and the printing process works. I am excited to create.
