Living Away From Home

For many people, college is the first time living away from home for an extended period of time.  This can be very daunting or maybe even scary at times.  But the feeling of homesickness is a completely normal feeling and I’m pretty sure everyone has experienced it at some point.

Here are some ways to help cure that homesickness you might feel:

  • Get involved in campus activities!
  • Post pictures and things from home in your room.
  • Talk about your feelings with friends, family, RA, or counselor (CSS has great resources!)
  • Find what makes you relaxed – whether that be music, exercising, or cooking!
  • Watch your favorite movie – this always helps me feel better.

Although living away from home can be scary at first, you will soon find that there are other people out there who are feeling the same way, and that there are always people that you can talk to if you need it.  College is such a fun experience!
