Is Social Media a Career?
The past few years our office has felt increasing pressure to embrace social media. We need to teach our students and alumni how to use it for networking and job searching opportunities; we need to market our services and events via the virtual world; and we need to exude our own professional (and personal) selves effectively online. (Practice what we preach.)
This fall we created a new student intern position in our office and a lot of her efforts will be spent on social media marketing. According to the recent Forbes article, Is Social Media Career?, our new intern, Emilee Franklin, will be gaining skills that could land her a pretty cool job after college: Social Media Manager. The title has not gained its own Occupational Outlook Handbook profile, but I suspect that will be happening soon…
