Day 7 of the PIFT
On day 7 of the PIFT, we spent our time in Atlanta, Georgia. We went out on our bus’s with Hamline and SBSJU and we went to Perkerson Elementary School to volunteer. There, we participated in the 3×3 project, creating urban gardens for the school. Urban areas severely lack in fresh produce, so we were helping provide healthy meals to the students at the school, who were all on the government’s free and reduced lunch program. About 30 of us did actual gardening, while the rest of us actually got to go into the school and hang out with the kids! AWESOMENESS. I got to be in a Spanish immersion kindergarten classroom… AKA my dream job. I even got to teach a lesson in Spanish. The kids all loved us there! The person running the 3×3 Project was so inspiring. After the service site, we dressed up and went in groups downtown in Atlanta. FYI: Atlanta has COCA COLA WORLD. Yes. I paid $17 to go see an interactive museum about Coke and yes I rode the 4-D ride. They also had all you could drink soda from every livable continent. We finished off the night with going to Applebee’s after our celebration ceremony. A great day!
