Research
Today I ran two participants. As part of my Psychology capstone course, I’m investigating the effects of cognitive strategies on emotion and performance. Last semester I conducted an exhaustive literature review, designed an experiment and wrote a proposal. Upon being accepted by the Institutional Review Board early this semester, I began running participants!
By April I am expected to have analyzed the data I’ve collected, and on April 15th I will be presenting my findings at UWS (University of Wisconsin, Superior). As someone who is interested in applying to research-based Ph.D. programs next fall, taking this course kills three birds with one stone: I am getting a real taste of what the research process is like (which is interesting to me), I am gaining valuable skills that will strengthen my application, and I am getting college credit for doing it. Talk about practicality!
