Raspberry Beer (Chemistry of Beer)
Today we tasted three flavored beers in class. One of them raspberry, which was quite coincidental, because I intended to ask to the professor whether it was doable to ferment raspberries to make an alcoholic beverage such as wine or beer. After class he clarified it would totally be possible, but after trying the raspberry flavored beer we came to the conclusion that it would be much better if it resembled wine more closely than beer. The bitterness brought by the “hops” (a plant added to offset the sweetness of malted barley) was a rather distasteful combination–in my opinion–with the mild sweetness and vague acidness of the raspberry. That said, the professor loved the idea of experimenting with it, so stay tuned for updates on this new project!
