Community Day

Yesterday was a long but great day! My community day started at 6:00 am and ended at 5:00 pm. I chose to go to the capitol and advocate for the MN State Grant. At 7am, a bus of about 50 students drove down to St. Paul MN. We arrived at the capitol about 9:30 and were given lunch money and our personal schedule. Each student had the opportunity to meet with their representative and senator based on their district. Those who are not residents of Minnesota met with representatives and senators who are member of our Duluth district where CSS is located. Overall, I was pleased with the entire trip. I met many people and had the opportunity to advocate for a grant that is important. Several student benefit from this grant. There are student who are unable to pay for college and who stress a lot with finances during their college year. This grant allows students to continue working hard to reach their goals and dreams. The grant allows students to have a little less worry paying for college. It allows students to not worry about having an extra job. It allows students to not take out another private loan that accumulates at a high interest rate. Without the grant, college would not be possible for several students. This community day was special and thankful a lot of our students were huge advocates!
